Holly's Heroes

Holly's Heroes : Making the gradeMaterialDela
  1. A new team. Five players with
    different skills, together as one.

  2. Working with a clear sense of purpose
    and commitment.

  3. That's the Holly McKenzie 100%
    guaranteed game plan for success.

  4. -What colour will our uniform be?
    -Our own team! Sweet.

  5. -We could have our own fan club.
    -Can I be number 23?

  6. Blue is the colour of champions.

  7. The only team in Woolich
    besides the Rams!

  8. Guys! Our first game is tomorrow...

  9. I know what you're saying. I can
    organise our uniforms by tomorrow.

  10. That's not what I was saying.
But can you really do that?

  11. I've got excess Rams stock.
I'll dye them a different colour.

  12. -Like blue!
    -I've got to be 23.

  13. Okay. Warm up
and I'll be back in ten.

  14. Mr. Peterson? I've come to collect
    our season fixtures.

  15. Let's not go jumping the gun. Your
team isn't on the season fixture yet.

  16. You have to make the grade.

  17. Playing in the top grade
    is a privilege you earn.

  18. -I don't understand, sir.
    -Tomorrow's an official grading game.

  19. Win against the Giants,
    then you're in the A-grade.

  20. And if we don't win?

  21. We go into a lower grade.

  22. -There's only one lower grade.
-It's miles away and without fans.

  23. Even the parents don't drop in,
    the basketball's that bad.

  24. I can't believe I quit the Rams
    to play in Loser League.

  25. -It's only if we lose.
-Which means we have to win.

  26. -No pressure!
    -We can do this.

  27. All we have to do is beat the Giants.
To do that, we need to practice.

  28. Well, prepare to be impressed.

  29. He's in the zone...
    He's stalking... Emily's on him...

  30. He finds an opening.
    23 makes a break.

  31. This boy is like Mike. He pulls up
the line. He takes it to the rack.

  32. He's buried the jumper.
This boy can shake and bake.

  33. -Didn't he miss?
    -Relax, we're just warming up.

  34. -Full house to defence.
    -Put it up, Franco!

  35. Yes, Johnno!

  36. Great steal, Emily. Now take it down
the other end. Go, go, go!

  37. All the way down there?
We normally just play up this end.

  38. Ralph, has anyone other than you
played on a full court? Never?

  39. It sounds bad, but we're versatile.

  40. -Ralph, what position did you play?
    -Power forward.

  41. Centre. Point Guard. Small forward.
    Oh, and Shooting Guard!

  42. All of them? Well, you must have
    played one position more often.

  43. They mostly used me as a sub. And
    when I say mostly, I mean...totally.

  44. And usually in the second half.
Usually for periods of three minutes.

  45. And when I say usually, I mean...

  46. -Totally.
    -Totally. Yeah. Got it.

  47. But you must be fit?
You do play two-on-two pretty often?

  48. Oh, yeah.

  49. -But... We play in rounds.
    -Of three minutes.

  50. You know, like boxing.

  51. Have you ever played
    for longer than three minutes?

  52. No. But you can sub me off when
    I get tired. I don't mind. Really.

  53. One problem. We don't have any subs.

  54. No fresh men? No replacements?

  55. I can't play a whole game! I'll die!

  56. I'll get muscle meltdown, crumple
like a blob and never walk again!

  57. Chill, Ralphie. We'll get your
fitness level up, you'll be fine.

  58. You only have one day.

  59. We're limited
    only by our minds, Holly.

  60. -I'll go and find us a sub.
    -Good idea.

  61. Jacinta, wait up! How about we take
    that tour of Woolich today?

  62. Sure.

  63. You must miss New Zealand.

  64. Yeah. I really miss some things.
I mean, I miss the Perky Nanas.

  65. The Hokey Pokey ice cream.
    You just can't beat it.

  66. My friends. the city...
    and my whannu...family.

  67. -So, pretty much everything?
    -Yup.

  68. -But you know what I really miss?
    -What?

  69. I miss belonging
    to the best basketball team.

  70. And having five subs.
Sure you won't give it a try?

  71. I'm sure.
    I don't do basketball, remember?

  72. -Hey, what about him? He's tall.
    -Yeah. Tall and weird.

  73. He used to be normal,
but one day, he stopped talking.

  74. -What about this girl?
    -Simone. She's a black belt.

  75. -So she's fit?
-And she used to play for the Rams.

  76. -Perfect!
-She got barred by the Association.

  77. -What for?
-She tried to say it was an accident.

  78. But she managed to get her elbow
into contact with the ref's rib cage.

  79. Charming.

  80. Hey, what about...? Forget it.

  81. Can't go on.

  82. Come on.
You've got to work hard to play hard.

  83. How long?

  84. Three minutes.

  85. There's Nick. He must be
    vaguely interested in basketball.

  86. -He used to be a member of the Rams.
-Ex-Rams? Just the way we like 'em.

  87. But...he had to leave mid-season.

  88. Why? It can't be worse
    than karate-chopping a ref.

  89. -Actually...
    -No, wait. Let me guess.

  90. He's the youngest person in Woolich
    to have a criminal record.

  91. -You're kidding. What happened?
-He burnt down the community hall.

  92. They sent him away.
He's been gone for two years.

  93. There was a rumour
he got expelled from six schools.

  94. Wherever he was, I know this:
    He's bad news.

  95. I think he might be
    exactly what we need.

  96. -Come on, mate.
    -I've got a stitch.

  97. Think of pain as weakness
    leaving your body.

  98. You're showing improvement already.

  99. -How long?
    -Time isn't important.

  100. -How long?
    -Three minutes.

  101. Hey, Ralph. Can't wait
    until your game tomorrow.

  102. We used to laugh at you for three
minutes. Now we can laugh for forty.

  103. -How long?
-Three minutes. Let's go for four.

  104. -I can't.
-Yes, you can. I'm here for you.

  105. Johnno!

  106. I've been meaning to talk to you.

  107. Mr. McKenzie. After another t-shirt?

  108. I think that one
might be a little bit snug on you.

  109. Now, Johnno. You sold me this t-shirt
for 35 bucks. Holly paid ten.

  110. -Something go wrong at the checkout?
    -It's a team discount.

  111. -I thought she was joining the Rams.
    -So did I.

  112. Since she didn't, how about a refund?

  113. I wish I could help. Company policy.

  114. But if there's anything else? Maybe I
could help you with marine supplies?

  115. I do need some things,
but I doubt you could help me.

  116. Doubt and Johnno
    in the same sentence?

  117. I'll forgive you
    because you're new around here.

  118. But if there's anything you need,
    I'm your man.

  119. -Is that right?
    -Name it.

  120. Well, I really need some Paua shells.

  121. -Power shells?
    -Paua. P-a-u-a.

  122. I need six or so by tomorrow.
You think you can handle that?

  123. Please, Mr. M. I thought
you had a real challenge for me.

  124. All right, then.

  125. -Hey, guys.
    -Hey! Check this out.

  126. Let's do it.

  127. -It went in last time.
    -I'm sure it was magic.

  128. -We thought of a team name.
    -The Dominators.

  129. Keep trying.

  130. -Johnno, what have you done to him?
    -He's fine. Aren't you, Ralphie?

  131. -I think my gums are dissolving.
-You weren't supposed to kill him!

  132. Trust me, this guy is made of steel.

  133. I think that's enough for one day.
Good job! - Did you find us a sub?

  134. -Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Nick Fraser.
    -Seriously, who is it?

  135. -I'm going to ask Nick.
    -But he's trouble.

  136. -He burnt down the hall.
    -Besides that, he'll never agree.

  137. Hello? Nick?

  138. -Can I help you?
-Do you always sneak up on people?

  139. Do you always enter
    without an invitation?

  140. -What do you want?
-For you to join my basketball team.

  141. -You've got a team?
    -Yeah. I have a team.

  142. What makes you think I want to join?

  143. I'm the only person in Woolich
that doesn't care about your past.

  144. Seat?

  145. -You scared I'm going to bite you?
-No. I just don't feel like sitting.

  146. We have to win a grading game
to be in the A-grade with the Rams.

  147. -Why do you care about the Rams?
    -Why do you?

  148. -I don't.
    -Neither do I.

  149. But I want my team to win tomorrow.

  150. And I want Mr. Peterson
to be watching when we do.

  151. There's a place for you on my team.
All you have to say is yes.

  152. Well, I'll think about it.

  153. Mitch Mios on Radio WOO. We've got
a number of ways to rock your boat.

  154. A dirt bike comp, a double feature at
the Civic Centre, and a flower show.

  155. The junior basketball season hasn't
started, but there's a game today-

  156. -as a new team fights for place in
the League. It will be a giant game.

  157. -Today's the day!
    -Don't pressure yourself, sweetheart.

  158. The team needs work,
but we'll come together on the court.

  159. Sit. Eat.

  160. -We have to make the grade, Mum.
    -And you will. Fritters.

  161. Everything's going to
fall into place. I can feel it.

  162. I'm not worthy of your attention,
but if you help me today-

  163. -I'll never ask for anything again.

  164. At least...not until the next match.

  165. Mum? Have you seen
    my lucky undies?

  166. No Paua shells. The closest they had
    were these Stromb shells.

  167. -These are yellow.
    -I can see that.

  168. -Paua shells are blue.
    -Yes, Johnno, I know.

  169. -Did you go to the Co-op?
    -Yes.

  170. -Did you tell them I sent you?
-They said they could order them.

  171. I need the uniforms
and the shells in an hour.

  172. -Shouldn't we be practising?
-It's okay, Em. I've got an idea.

  173. Desperate times
    call for desperate measures.

  174. -How long to order the Paua shells?
    -Two weeks.

  175. -Are they coming from the moon?
    -It takes two weeks because...

  176. Uh-oh.

  177. Quick, Em, the phone!

  178. Hello? Hi, Johnno.

  179. Hang on a sec...

  180. -Scusa, Nonna?
    -Si, Franco?

  181. Nick Fraser. What brings you here
    after school hours?

  182. No law against jogging,
    is there, sir?

  183. No need to be defensive. It's in the
interests of the town and the school-

  184. -to bring delinquents
and other outlaws back into society.

  185. -So I'm an outlaw?
    -I believe in second chances.

  186. Just don't blow yours. Because
the second you do, I'll be there.

  187. -Oh my goodness, it's raining threes!
    -Where have you been?

  188. -Getting Paua shells for your dad.
    -Paua shells?

  189. I didn't know
you could get them here too.

  190. I thought you could
only get them in New Zealand.

  191. Why would your dad...

  192. Em, I think we've been had.

  193. -What happened to your arms?
-Had a run-in with some blue dye.

  194. -Not the uniforms?
-Also had a run-in with blue dye.

  195. -Johnno!
    -It's okay, Franco's onto it.

  196. -Hope we have a sub. Lactic acid.
    -Didn't you stretch?

  197. Stretch? I can't even
get my heels on the ground!

  198. -We stretch at ballet. I'll show you.
    -I don't think so.

  199. -Ralph!
    -Okay. Ballet it is.

  200. -Where's Franco?
    -He'll be here.

  201. Well, we can't play without uniforms.

  202. What are the Rams doing here?

  203. They're waiting for me
to make a giant idiot of myself.

  204. I don't feel good.
I couldn't find my lucky jocks.

  205. You'll be fine, you're the man!

  206. Look at them. Face facts, we're on
a one-way road to loser league.

  207. -Franco!
    -Hi, guys!

  208. -Have you got the singlets?
    -Good one, bro.

  209. -I feel like an idiot.
    -Where did you get these?

  210. -My nonna did her best.
    -They've got no chance.

  211. This is a bad sign. First we'll get
wiped out, then laughed out of town.

  212. I can't believe you chose to trade in
one of these for one of those.

  213. What's your team called? The Losers!

  214. Giants! Giants! Giants!

  215. Okay, come on.

  216. -We don't have a name.
    -And our sub?

  217. Let's just go out there and win.

  218. What's wrong, Ralphie?

  219. -Choker, choker.
    -What's the matter with Ralph?

  220. He just gets a bit nervous sometimes.

  221. It's air time. Let the punishment
begin. You're in the zone now.

  222. Too easy.

  223. Number 23 - safe bet.

  224. Creeping forward... Moving towards
the rack. Will he go coast-to-coast?

  225. -To me, Ralph!
    -Quick here, Roger!

  226. -All the way, Yes!
    -Go, Johnno!

  227. Good shot!

  228. Nothing but net!

  229. Holly! - Em!

  230. Again, Em, again. Here!

  231. Go-cart, Franco!

  232. Yes!

  233. -Suck it up, you're doing great.
    -Gums, dissolving.

  234. You're just standing still. No one's
moving a thing by holding out.

  235. All we have to do
is hold on to our lead.

  236. And hope the other side don't
run us around too much. Okay?

  237. -They're doing well.
    -They're running out of steam.

  238. If the other team use their fresh
    legs, they'll take the lead.

  239. -Girl, you're doing good.
    -Yeah, good!

  240. Come on then! Ready, fellows, go!

  241. -Time.
    -Time out!

  242. You're off... You're on.

  243. They're trying to exhaust us.

  244. We're still in the lead by four.
    Just hang on.

  245. -I can't go on.
-Johnno, if I don't make it...

  246. ...I want you to have my collection
    of number 23 memorabilia.

  247. Guys, let's just slow it down.

  248. What's he doing here?

  249. -What took you so long?
-I said I'd think about it.

  250. -Right, Ralph.
    -Johnno.

  251. -But I'm dying.
    -He's already dead.

  252. -Nick!
-Take some time, catch your breath.

  253. -Nick! Nick!
    -Right here, Ralph!

  254. Yeah, let's go! Nice one, Holly!

  255. Yeah. Go!

  256. -There you are, Franco.
    -Nick! Mine!

  257. Yes!

  258. Congratulations. I need a team name,
and you've officially made the grade.

  259. -Team name? We don't...
    -The Outlaws.

  260. The Outlaws.

  261. The Outlaws.
