Holly's Heroes

  1. Grand Final celebrations. It's a
    shame they don't last forever.

  2. But they can't. Just when you think
    you've got the game sussed-

  3. -someone shifts the goals. Huh?

  4. -What is it?
-Chicken soup. I made it myself.

  5. What do you want to drink? There's
rose hip, green tea or lemon tea.

  6. -I'll make regular tea myself.
    -No!

  7. The doctor said you have to rest.

  8. -We're the champions!
    -You're late.

  9. You know, places to be,
    things to do, adoring fans...

  10. -Autographs to sign.
    -Where's Emily and Nick?

  11. -We'll look after the boat rentals.
    -It's not about the boatshed.

  12. -It's basketball and it's important.
-The season is over. It can wait.

  13. -Except the end of season trip.
    -What trip?

  14. We can't afford
a movie and popcorn at half-price.

  15. I'll work on it. Okay.
Let's get those boats on the road.

  16. Well, I really need to...rest.

  17. -Mr. M!
    -What's up?

  18. There's a guy poaching something
at the far end of the beach.

  19. It's all right, Em. It's Sophie.

  20. Hey, Sophie. Sophie, this is Emily.
    Emily is a marine fanatic.

  21. -She thought you were a poacher.
-I wouldn't make much from these.

  22. North Pacific Sea Star.
    They're killing our reefs.

  23. I'm trying to
even up the odds for the coral.

  24. -Back to the sea, little fella.
    -Definitely not a poacher.

  25. -Sorry. Hadn't seen you here before.
    -That's okay.

  26. The Coastal Cadets usually cover this
    area. We're awaiting a replacement.

  27. -Who?
    -Don't know yet.

  28. But we won't be short
    of applications. Are you interested?

  29. -Me?
-Yeah. But it's not kid's stuff.

  30. No deep-sea diving for juniors.
    Still hard work.

  31. -We're looking for commitment.
-The Outlaws just won the final.

  32. -Emily knows about commitment.
    -Would I have a chance?

  33. Pick up an application
    for Emily at the Institute.

  34. Emily! Team meeting!

  35. She wouldn't ask me to apply
    if I didn't have a chance.

  36. That's good, Em.
    What about basketball?

  37. -I can do both. No worries.
    -What's going on?

  38. -They never phone, never call.
-What are the Rams doing here?

  39. We've got some exciting news for you.

  40. Woolich has been invited to enter
a team into the PanPacific League.

  41. The season starts in two weeks
and runs until the end of the year.

  42. You'll play Asia, The Pacific
Islands, New Zealand and the USA.

  43. -America!
-A squad of 8 will be selected.

  44. And, as last season's premieres,
the Outlaws are guaranteed a spot.

  45. -You've got to be joking.
-If they can cover the cost.

  46. The season is subsidised, but
each player has to pay 250 dollars.

  47. I'm sorry to announce that Max
Peterson won't be coaching the team.

  48. Fortunately, another skilled coach
    has volunteered his services.

  49. They won't get away with this.

  50. If Max doesn't coach,
    we don't play. Agreed?

  51. Nobody gave me a shove.
    I told them I couldn't do it.

  52. -But, Max...
    -Don't "but Max" me.

  53. You were just tucking me in
    with chicken soup.

  54. I'm not well enough to coach.
You'll have to take someone else.

  55. But look who they've given us!

  56. You're the Pan Pacs coach.
    You can pick anyone.

  57. Weren't you listening? The Outlaws
won, they are first on the list.

  58. But this is going to cost 250 dollars
per player. No pay, no play.

  59. I'm anticipating vacancies.

  60. -I'm going to be on the bench.
    -Don't be so negative.

  61. We ruined his season.
You don't think he'll pay us back?

  62. -It'll be the torture chamber again.
-Max, don't do it. Please come back.

  63. I agree he needs to loosen up. You're
the team to do it. You'll be fine.

  64. If it's okay with the medical staff,
I'm going to make myself a snack.

  65. -We can't let Peterson coach.
    -It doesn't matter, I won't be going.

  66. What are you talking about?

  67. My folks haven't got 250 bucks.
There's no way I can go.

  68. -And where will we get 500 dollars?
-From now on my autograph will cost.

  69. Get real. Do you think we can raise
250 a head by the end of the week?

  70. How?

  71. We never counted on
making it to the Pan Pacs.

  72. But I'll tell you something. We
earned it. And no one is missing out.

  73. -Any ideas, Johnno?
    -Money? Ask me something hard.

  74. Who thinks they can get the money?

  75. Holly, Jacinta, Nick... I can ask for
    an advance on my inheritance.

  76. -Johnno!
-They'll leave us everything one day.

  77. If we keep the van open extra hours
    we get half the profits.

  78. Our parents are into slave labour.

  79. Max said we can have
    10% of the boatshed rentals.

  80. All right. We've got a thousand
dollars to raise. Let's get to work.

  81. My greatest challenge ever.

  82. Right! Left!

  83. All right, Rams, listen up.

  84. Many Outlaws might not make it, and
you should be ready to replace them.

  85. You'll find your name on a list in
the change rooms in priority order.

  86. Coach... Where am I on that list?

  87. There's one spot available,
    Joel takes that.

  88. You get first vacancy.
    Scubinski's next.

  89. -Thank you.
    -If you can't give 100%, you're out.

  90. -It's improving, it's just tender.
    -There's hardly any improvement.

  91. -You have been keeping off it?
-I've got to pass a fitness test.

  92. -Give me a pain killer.
    -And risk more damage?

  93. Trish, the only cure is rest.

  94. -Do you think I'm good enough?
    -You heard Sophie.

  95. -The selection process is tough.
    -Not for the Coastal Cadets.

  96. -For the Pan Pacs.
    -You're a champion.

  97. Yeah, but this is the big league.
The Pan Pacs. I'm too short.

  98. It doesn't matter how small you are.
If you want something, you can do it.

  99. -Right?
    -Right.

  100. -You'll pay for Joel but not for me?
    -That's not what I said.

  101. Basketball is Joel's career.
The Pan Pacs are a logical step.

  102. Convince me basketball is more than
a hobby, and I'll find the money.

  103. I can shoot.
I earned my place with the Outlaws.

  104. There are people who care about
the game who can't get on this squad.

  105. I'm giving you the chance to ask
yourself if this is what you want.

  106. No, you're not. You're telling me
    I'm not good enough.

  107. Forget about the money, Dad.
I'll pay my own way. Thanks.

  108. -Is that what I think it is?
    -Our NBA money box.

  109. -How much did you two save?
    -260 dollars and fifteen cents.

  110. -The team needs the bucks.
    -But it's your savings.

  111. Another four grand and we could have
flown to seen the Lakers. - Cards.

  112. -It took two years to save that.
-High card goes to the Pan Pacs.

  113. Just deal.

  114. Four for the lady.
    Seven beats a four.

  115. Ten of diamonds.

  116. Nine. Ralph's got the high card.

  117. RJ, you high roller, you.

  118. Looks like you're off
    to the big time, amigo.

  119. -Four down, three to go.
    -Actually, four to go.

  120. I'm having trouble raising the money.

  121. No one says anything about it
    to Max, okay?

  122. Are you okay?
    Look, we'll raise the money.

  123. I hate to tell you, Holly,
    but it's not looking good.

  124. A brand new day.
The sun's out, the sky's blue.

  125. A week of gut-wrenching
    hard work.

  126. 28 boat rentals,
12 packs of bait, 4 surfboards-

  127. -186 lamburgers
    with fries means that... Oh.

  128. We're still only half-way there.

  129. Time to pull out something special.
A sure-fire way to make money.

  130. -Cookies!
    -Yum. What sort?

  131. -Fund-raising. A dollar a pop.
    -Don't like that flavour.

  132. What? Why are you and Mum
    acting so weird?

  133. You'll have to wait for your mother.
She made me promise not to tell you.

  134. But maybe if I had a cookie...

  135. -More chocolate chips, eggs, flour.
    -Tell me, please!

  136. -Dad didn't tell you?
    -No.

  137. Mrs. Rasic rang up
with the itinerary for the Pan Pacs.

  138. -First game's in New Zealand.
    -You're kidding!

  139. -Let's move these cookies!
    -I'll start another batch.

  140. Mr. McKenzie. Did you get a chance
    to look at my application?

  141. Sure. It's good.

  142. Just good?

  143. -Very good.
-It needs to be better than that.

  144. The section on sand dune preservation
    is excellent.

  145. -But...?
    -You didn't answer one question.

  146. "How would you make the public more
aware of issues facing the ocean?"

  147. I ran out of time. We only have this
week to raise money for the team.

  148. Emily, you can do
what you set your mind to.

  149. You can't do
two things at the same time.

  150. -Or maybe you can?
    -What?

  151. Thanks, Mr. McKenzie!

  152. This weekend, get to Max Peterson's
boatshed for Mysteries of the Deep.

  153. Tomorrow, one day only.
    You might learn something.

  154. And you'll help our champs
on their way to the Pan Pacs.

  155. This is Mitch Mios
on Radio WOO, in the fun zone.

  156. Two more lamburgers with the lot.

  157. No rides, no roller-coasters,
    no ghost train.

  158. -Not even clowns with open mouths.
-Emily's doing cool stuff in there.

  159. Yeah. She's telling the story of the
    coast. It's like being underwater.

  160. Well, it doesn't rock my cereal bowl.
    Amazement and disbelief can wait.

  161. -Time to make some serious cash.
    -Meaning...?

  162. Go to Fisherman's Wharf
and get a stack of fish fillets.

  163. -Lamburger doesn't do fish and chips.
    -It does today.

  164. If paying customers are into
the mysteries of the deep, so are we!

  165. People are actually queuing up to see
    Emily's stupid seashell collection.

  166. Doesn't matter.
    They'll never raise the money.

  167. -Don't say a word to the coach.
    -As if.

  168. -Hey, Em.
    -Hi. What do you think?

  169. -Looks great.
    -I think you need to...

  170. A lady called Sophie Koslowski
    to see you.

  171. -You really think it looks good?
    -Except for the starfish.

  172. These aren't starfish,
    they're molluscs.

  173. -Ralph put the wrong sign on.
    -I'll get it.

  174. -I would've looked like an idiot.
    -Yeah, leave that to Ralph.

  175. -Hi, Sophie.
    -Hi.

  176. Well, this is different.

  177. Max! Shouldn't you be...

  178. Next person to say "resting" could
be injured by an ex-basketball coach.

  179. I wouldn't dream of using the "r"
word, Coach. What can we do for you?

  180. Give me a lamburger, and don't
    be stingy with the beetroot.

  181. Hey. Why is Jacinta's name
    crossed off?

  182. -Her dad should be paying.
    -Don't sweat it, Max.

  183. -Everyone will be on that plane.
    -Right.

  184. -This isn't necessary.
-250 gets Jacinta to the Pan Pacs.

  185. I did not refuse to pay. I asked her
to show me that she was serious.

  186. As her ex-coach,
    I can vouch for that.

  187. As her father,
    you should know it already.

  188. Give that to Mrs. McKenzie.

  189. Give Max back his money.
    I'll pay for you.

  190. This way to the lamburger van.
    Straight ahead.

  191. Get your fish and chips here.
    Get them while they're hot!

  192. No species were endangered
in the making of this lunch.

  193. -Yes, chips.
    -That's great.

  194. -Enjoy, it's gourmet!
    -Just one?

  195. Paying as a group?

  196. I wanted it to feel like you were
    taking a walk underwater.

  197. You have to use your imagination
    a little.

  198. Looks to me as though it's working.
    I'm impressed, Emily.

  199. Welcome to the Coastal Cadets.

  200. -You're the new Ranger for Woolich.
    -Really? I'm in?

  201. You've seen the mysteries
of the deep. Now taste them.

  202. Straight from the ocean to you.
Get fish and chips here. Come on!

  203. -Whose idea was the fish and chips?
    -I told them to.

  204. -That's a great idea. I'm starved!
    -Good job, Em.

  205. -Come on, Coastal Cadet. Let's eat!
    -My shout.

  206. What a week. I knew we could do it.

  207. Pan Pac Championships,
    here we come!

  208. Franco, according to the cards,
you're next. Tick your name off.

  209. -When's the deadline?
-At the gym with our money by 6.

  210. Oh no.

  211. Count it again. What about
    the money from the boatshed?

  212. What's up?

  213. -There's enough for one more player.
    -Two more. Me and Emily.

  214. -Yeah, Johnno... There's not enough.
    -Someone's going to miss out.

  215. Em! Emily... The others
are on their way to the gym.

  216. No, you go. I think
I'll give the Pan Pacs a miss.

  217. Basketball's
    sort of cramping my style.

  218. I could go to the Pan Pacs...or
be a millionaire by the time I'm 21.

  219. -Some Ram's going to take your spot.
    -At least you're going.

  220. I can't. I'm a Coastal Cadet-

  221. -and training starts the same week
    as the Pan Pacs. Sorry.

  222. I've got to be realistic.
I can't do two things at once.

  223. It'll be tough. But you're going to
have to do it without me.

  224. -Some Ram's going to get that spot!
    -Johnno, get moving!

  225. Five Outlaws players have
paid the fee and are in the squad.

  226. This leaves three places.

  227. -The Walsh kids aren't here yet.
    -A deadline is a deadline.

  228. I'll read out the names. Each player
    come collect an information kit.

  229. -But what about...?
    -Franco Galluzo.

  230. Ralph Owen.

  231. Jacinta Peterson.

  232. Nick Fraser.

  233. Holly McKenzie.

  234. And since there are no more Outlaws
paid up, the next three places...

  235. Sorry, sir. Traffic was shocking.

  236. -You don't drive, Walsh.
    -Anyway, I'm in, sir.

  237. -All right! Yes!
    -We're all going.

  238. -Can we treat this seriously, please?
    -Emily?

  239. -Early retirement, Mrs. McKenzie.
    -Without any further interruptions...

  240. ...the two remaining places
will be filled by Joel Peterson...

  241. ...and Trish Jenkins.

  242. Go and get it for me.

  243. Eleanor, sit down.
Trish, come up and get your kit.

  244. That's far enough. Trish, I'm sorry.
We simply cannot take unfit players.

  245. The final place in the squad
will be filled by Eleanor Scubinski.

  246. That's that.
First training run at 4 pm tomorrow.

  247. Welcome to the Pan Pacs.

  248. -Your new uniforms.
    -What will we be called?

  249. -I'm thinking the Warriors.
    -Or maybe the Woolich Warlords.

  250. -You're kidding?
    -You can't be serious.

  251. -It's your colour, Joel.
    -Welcome to the Outlaws, guys.
